Vera is one of the characters that have popped into a few other books and I believe this is the first one devoted to her. Her hair salon is the only one in town and you can often see her hair in a new color. I have enjoyed all of my “return visits” to this small town and you know my love for small towns. Second, I love the town of Linden Falls and all of its lovely characters. Langdo's interpretation changes the child, who is never mentioned in the text, from a girl to a boy, creates a more contemporary household setting, and includes more bold and bright colors, like the ones found in other newer easy readers. The version I read, however, is the 2005 version, whose illustrations were updated by Bryan Langdo. This title, Cat and Dog, was published three years after Little Bear, in 1960, and was originally illustrated by Fritz Siebel. Else Holmelund Minarik is best known for the Little Bear series, which founded the I Can Read concept back in 1957. ![]() ![]() ![]() And that the content of one's character really was the only way to judge someone. I was born in the early 60's in the west, and was raised by open, loving parents to believe that all persons are equal. The most important effect this film had on me, was in raising the awareness of what an amazing gentleman he was. The direction and production values were extremely well done. It garnered a total of 8 nominations, and won for 'Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore) for the composer Billy Goldenberg. They both earned an Emmy nomination for their work on this film. As is to be expected since they are both fine actors, outstanding in their field. King and Cicely Tyson as His Wife (Coretta Scott King) were outstanding. The performances by both Paul Winfield as Mr. At times I had to remind myself that this was a cast. ![]() The performances by the entire cast were well above board. I was never one to be impressed by television mini-series (especially 70's) however this film holds it's own. However they were actually interested in this one. ![]() There are few (non animated) films my three young boys will sit through, especially historical. I saw this film with my family the day before the holiday designated in honor of him. for what he had attained, I never knew much about him. I must admit, although I have always admired Martin Luther King Jr. ![]() |
